My No-Holes Granny Square - Free Crochet Pattern


My No-Holes Granny Square

Finished squares are about 6 to 6 1/2 " square.

Crochet Hook size “I” (or whatever your normal “gauge” tells you - I crochet a little tight so I normally have to go up 1 size, so I will be using a “J” hook).
Worsted Weight Yarn
NOTE: You will increase each round by 4 stitches per side.

For multi-colored granny:

With color A ,Chain 4, join with slip stitch to first chain from hook to form a circle

Rnd 1: chain 3, 2 double crochet’s in circle ,chain 2 , *3 double crochet’s in circle , chain 2, repeat from * 3 times; join to top chain of beginning chain 3 with slip stitch (starting chain always counts as 1st double crochet). finish off.
[round 1 will have a total of 12 double crochets and 4 chain-2 spaces]

Rnd 2: With color B ,Slip stitch into corner chain-2 space, chain 3. 1 double crochet in same chain-2 space,* 1 double crochet in next 3 double crochets, 2 double crochets into chain-2 corner, chain 2, 2 double crochets in same chain-2 corner space. Repeat from * until you get back to first corner, 2 double crochets in beginning chain-2 space ,chain 2 ; join to top chain of beginning chain-3 with slip stitch. finish off .
[Round 2 will have a total of 28 double crochets and 4 chain-2 spaces]

Rnd 3:With color C ,Slip stitch into corner chain-2 space, chain 3. 1 double crochet in same chain-2 space,* 1 double crochet in next 7 double crochets, 2 double crochets into chain-2 corner, chain 2, 2 double crochets in same chain-2 corner space. Repeat from * until you get back to first corner, 2 double crochets in beginning chain-2 space ,chain 2 ; join to top chain of beginning chain-3 with slip stitch. finish off .
[Round 3 will have a total of 44 double crochets and 4 chain-2 spaces]

Rnd 4: With color D ,Slip stitch into corner chain-2 space, chain 3. 1 double crochet in same chain-2 space,* 1 double crochet in next 11 double crochets, 2 double crochets into chain-2 corner, chain 2, 2 double crochets in same chain-2 corner space. Repeat from * until you get back to first corner, 2 double crochets in beginning chain-2 space ,chain 2 ; join to top chain of beginning chain-3 with slip stitch. finish off .
[Round 4 will have a total of 60 double crochets and 4 chain-2 spaces]

Rnd 5: With color E ,Slip stitch into corner chain-2 space, chain 3. 1 double crochet in same chain-2 space,* 1 double crochet in next 15 double crochets, 2 double crochets into chain-2 corner, chain 2, 2 double crochets in same chain-2 corner space. Repeat from * until you get back to first corner, 2 double crochets in beginning chain-2 space ,chain 2 ; join to top chain of beginning chain-3 with slip stitch. finish off .

Finished Size:  Approx 20" x 24"

You will need:
2 skeins Worsted Weight Yarn (just about a full skein of each)
Size K (6.5mm) Crochet Hook
Scissors
Tapestry Needle

Gauge:  Approx 11 sts = 4"

Abbreviations Used:
Ch: Chain
Dc: Double Crochet
Sk: Skip
Sts: Stitches
Sc: Single Crochet

Lets Begin!
Chain 58 loosely  **NOTE:  Yarn is held doubled**

Row 1: DC in 4th Ch from hook and each Ch across (56 Dc)  Ch 3, Turn
Row 2-?: Dc in each Dc across. Ch 3, Turn.  Repeat this row for 8 (or 16) inches (56 Dc)

Next Row:  22 Dc, Ch 10, Sk 10 DC, 23 DC Ch 3, Turn (Total 56 sts)
Next Row:  22 Dc, 10 Dc in Ch Sts, 23 Dc Ch 3, Turn (56)

Repeat Row 2-? until Approx 24" long.  Do not cut yarn.

Border:
Ch 1, 1 Sc in each Dc, 2 Sc in each row on the side.  There will be 3 Sc in each corner.
